Risograph Children’s Book

A Risograph printer is a high-speed digital duplicator that combines elements of screen printing and photocopying. It creates stencil-based prints by burning an image onto a master sheet, which is then wrapped around an ink drum. As paper passes through, ink is pushed through the stencil, producing vibrant, textured prints.

I paired with a peer to create this book, she was the author and I was the illustrator. The story revolves around travels and experiences I have had that have shaped me and formed me. The reader is taken through a poetic journey being reminded of how plans change and life goes on, but we do not have to fear because there is a plan bigger than we can imagine!

process

Creating this book started with the ideation of content, imagery sketches, and color separation. Each page had to be printed 5 times through to lay each color down, to create the full spread of colors.

After each page had 6-7 duplicates, I hand cut, scored, and bound each page to create a total of 5 books. This whole process took nearly 55 hours of work once printing began.
